We all suffer from FOMO from time to time. However, with the right online tools, you never again have to miss out on what everyone is talking about!

If you’re interested in always being in the know, listen up:

Social Mention is a social media search and analysis platform that combines user generated content from across the universe into a single stream of information. You can use it to view the top 20 trends on social media, and it is updated regularly!

This weekend I was interested in finding out what general topics the universe was buzzing about, so I went to Social Mention’s Trends page. We all know that the NFL controls most people's lives this time of year, so it was unsurprising that the number one trend was the Patriots. NUMBER ONE. Imagine being that popular that you rank number one on all social media platforms?! If only…

Before I got myself all jealous, I decided to check out if what people were saying about the Patriots were positive or negative sentiments. Based on the past few headlines, I was going to guess negative but just like anything else, people’s opinions change so quickly, you could never be too sure.

To get more in depth data, I headed over to Trackur. On Trackur, hundreds of millions of sources are monitored including, news, blogs, reviews, Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and forums. The results are targeted by country and with Trackur's Custom Feeds, and we can upload the RSS feed of any web site and monitor it for our chosen keywords. The keywords are scored positive, negative, or neutral, and then analyzed to show us the influence of each person discussing them.

Out of the first 100 results, 55% showed a neutral sentiment towards the Patriots, 27% showed a negative, and the remaining 18% was positive. So I wasn't completely accurate in my guess that most sentiments were going to be negative, but they sure weren’t all positive. People were talking about everything from the Patriots’ possible trades, to Presidential hopeful Marco Rubio’s opinion of “Deflategate.” No topic was unturned. Wow, these guys really are popular. Now I know who to bring up if I’m ever searching for something to talk about at a party. Apparently, everyone has something to say about the New England Patriots!

Just as I did for a general current event topic, the same can be done for keywords that relate to your company and brand.

Social Mention allows us to easily track and measure what people are saying about you, your company, a new product, or any topic across the web's social media landscape in real-time. With Trackur, we are able to quickly learn about the health of your brand through the number of new results, velocity change, and share of voice. We also gain crazy clarity by being able to see who’s talking about your company, executives, products, employees, and competitors. These are just two of the hundreds of helpful online tools that help us boost your online presence, but they are two of the best!
